  • Wild Challenge Bronze Award

Thu 27 Apr 2023 Mr Hopkinson

A HUGE congratulations to all the children in the Curious Crabs for completing a variety of activities to promote nature within the school and receiving the Wild Challenge Bronze award. The children have explained what they have had to do:

We built a bug hotel and we have a bird feeder on the window. Each day a robin comes to feed from the bird feeder, especially when we are doing phonics. We have also used our senses to engage with nature. We have done a sound walk and we have matched colours with the season. We have shaken trees to see what minibeats live in them. We have planted potatoes and other vegetables. We have had lots of fun completing the challenge.

  • ilke Homes visit

Fri 21 Apr 2023 Mr Hopkinson

Our children in Reception had a great time when ilke Homes came into school before half term.

The development team from ilke Homes explained how the new homes on Rolleston Drive are manufactured and brought to site. The children then had the chance to try on PPE and learn about safety on site.

  • Eggcellent Easter Fun!

Fri 31 Mar 2023 Mr Hopkinson

This week has been very exciting, particularly with Wellbeing Days taking place on Monday and today, along with our ‘eggciting’ egg rolling and decorating competition yesterday.

The children had a fantastic time competing in the egg rolling. Each child initially competed against their classmates to get a class winner. Each of the class winners are as follows:

Mollie (Brilliant Bunnies), Leo (Brave Bears), Toby (Courageous Caterpillars), Lenny (Curious Crabs), Charlie (Perky Pandas), Ava (Kind Koalas).

The winners from each class went into a grand final and after some tense rolling, the overall winner was Leo (Brave Bears). Well done, Leo – I wouldn’t want to go ten pin bowling with you!

Also, a huge well done to everyone that took part in the egg decorating too. I absolutely loved looking at all of the amazing designs. I know Miss Creber had a very difficult job in choosing the winners! After much deliberation, the following winners were chosen:

Eric (Brilliant Bunnies), Joanna (Brave Bears), Rio (Courageous Caterpillars), Arabella (Curious Crabs), Louie Ch (Perky Pandas), Samhita (Kind Koalas).

Well done children, and thank you to Friends of Woodthorpe Infants for organising the prizes for the winners!

  • Ducklings and a Disco

Fri 17 Mar 2023 Mr Hopkinson

It has been a very exciting and fun week at WIS with the arrival of the duck eggs on Monday and so many of the children dancing the night away at the disco on Thursday! We have had four ducklings hatch so far and we are keeping our fingers crossed for the last one. I must also take this opportunity to thank the Friends of Woodthorpe Infants for organising another fantastic disco for the children, and also the staff for staying and supervising the children. The DJ was brilliant and kept the children entertained throughout!

  • Reading Recommendations

Fri 10 Mar 2023 Mr Hopkinson

  • Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Fri 10 Mar 2023 Mr Hopkinson

It has been a very exciting week with the snow we have had, as I am sure you can imagine. It has been lovely seeing the children have an amazing time playing in it, and quite amusing at times seeing staff trying to keep the children engaged when snow can be seen outside the classroom windows!

  • Barney the Assistance Dog

Thu 19 Jan 2023 Mr Hopkinson

It has been an exciting week for the children in Foundation 2 as they had a very special visitor – Barney the assistance dog. Barney was joined by his owner, Sarah, who spoke to the children about all the important things Barney does to help her, from picking up her keys if she drops them to letting her mum know if Sarah is feeling unwell. The children learnt about all the different kinds of working dogs and what their special jobs are. A big thank you to Sarah and Barney!

It has been wonderful having the children back in school again and seeing their smiley faces. Just a reminder for your Year 2 parents/carers that applications for Year 3 places need to be submitted by Sunday 15th January.
