Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
For our final week at science tots the children have been learning to be science detectives. They investigated a variety of activities, including chromatography, mystery messages, fingerprinting, acids and alkalis, and footprints. The children have really enjoyed the after school club and they have used their learning powers to learn lots of new things.
This week at Science Tots the children were exploring different types of rocks. They experimented which rocks floated and which sank. The children then had the opportunity to use the dinosaur key to excavate some dinosaur bones and fossils. Some of them were even buried in 'quicksand'! The highlight was definitely seeing a volcano erupt!
By now you should have received a letter explaining the school's decision on wearing a face covering at drop off and collection times. Thank you for your cooperation with this and your ongoing support and understanding during these unprecedented times.
The letter can be viewed on the 'letters' section of our website here.
Following our original decision to postpone the running of all afterschool clubs, I am very pleased to announce that we have received confirmation from the Department for Education that all our afterschool clubs can continue.
All club providers have been informed and they will be in touch with you to organise their individual arrangements.
Following the most recent guidance issued to schools on the new national restrictions from 5th November (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/education-and-childcare-settings-new-national-restrictions-from-5-november-2020), we have taken the decision to stop all afterschool clubs immediately for the duration of the lockdown, which is currently due to finish on 2nd December. As per the guidance, this does not include Woodpeckers who will continue to provide before and after school activities for the purpose of childcare.
All our afterschool club providers have been contacted and informed of the above and have been asked to make contact with parents/carers about their arrangements for refunding/rearranging sessions.
I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
This week’s session was very spooky! We started with smoke bubbles; as they popped on the floor the smoke eerily crept along the carpet. We then practised our fine motor skills by picking spiders from their webs. We watched some Science magic as Nina made a spider’s web from a polystyrene cup.
Next, we used static electricity to make ghosts and bat wings spookily dance around. It was fun to see whose hair was best for rubbing the balloons against!
After that, we all had little cauldrons and made our own witches brew with bicarbonate of soda and coloured vinegar. They bubbled over the top and made a real mess.
Lastly, we predicted what would happen if we mixed bicarbonate of soda and vinegar together inside a sealed bag - we were right; there was an explosion!
