  • Science Tots After School Club

Thu 09 Nov 2023 Martine Sellers

This is our last Science Tots session for me and the children. I have loved supporting Nina for the past 5 years. The children have thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and have not only had lots of fun but have learnt lots about science.

This week we had a spooky theme. The children experimented with dissolving ghosts. They made gas bubbles and used balloons to create friction. They used their skills to retrieve spiders from webs. Lots of fun and laughter had by all especially when the ghoul ghost exploded.

This week the children were investigating solids, liquids, and gases. They started the session with having an ice cube each and during the session they observed what changes occurred. The children learnt the difference between solids and liquids. Solids don’t change shape and liquids do change shape. The children really enjoyed the session and the was highlight making slime.

This week at science tots the children were having fun with Physics. The children started the session with investigating magnetics and air pressure. Later in the session the children used their knowledge to raise water to the top of a container with just using stones (water displacement). They learnt that there was more movement from the water the larger the stone. Finally, the children had a competition to build an unsupported tower. Lots of reciprocity was used!

This week in Science Tots the children investigated different insects and they used tweezers to pick up pom poms pretending that they were birds and the tweezers were their beaks. The highlight of the session was holding a live insect from Nina’s garden.  The children were very brave and this created lots of excitement!

The children in Science Tots this week really enjoyed using their five senses to do a variety of activities. They made some rattles out of different materials and experimented to see which material would make the most noise. They also experimented with different coloured water to make the colours orange and purple. The highlight of the session was making their own sherbet and then tasting it. We had lots of funny faces!

  • Wellbeing Day

Fri 14 Jul 2023 Mr Hopkinson

It may be getting closer to the summer holidays but that hasn’t stopped the fun happening at WIS. This week saw the final Wellbeing Day for our classes, with the children taking part in lacrosse, tri-golf and cheerleading, as well as making their own keepsake fridge magnet. A huge thank you to Next Level Sports for their continued support over the year and delivering the sporting activities during our Wellbeing Days and to Miss Gill who has organised all of the art and craft activities on these days too!

  • A busy week at WIS!

Fri 07 Jul 2023 Mr Hopkinson

Well, well, well… what a busy week at WIS!

Firstly, I would like to say a huge thank you to FOWI once again for our whole school trip to Nottingham’s Theatre Royal last Friday to watch Winnie-the-Pooh. The children had an amazing time and the show was brilliant!

We have had lots of exciting events happening at school this week, starting with some of our year 2 children representing us at the Key Stage 1 Quads Kids Athletics competition on Tuesday. Ella, Ava, Jacob (Kind Koalas), Isaac, Eva, Finn, Chloe and Louie Ca (Perky Pandas) did a fantastic job, taking part in various track and field events. The children worked their socks off and represented the school perfectly – I am very proud of them all!

On Wednesday, the school took part in some sporting workshops with GB heptathlete, Katie Stainton. The children were inspired when listening to Katie talk about her sporting journey during a whole school assembly and they thoroughly enjoyed taking part in different jumping, running and throwing events. As a reward for the fundraising efforts, the children in the Kind Koalas also enjoyed a smoothie making session – they were yummy!

The children in the singing group were very excited about their performance this week. They have worked hard over the last few weeks learning the songs and it was fantastic to see them be so brave and they sounded brilliant singing Try Everything, Count on Me, This is Me, and When I Grow Up – well done children!

  • Sports Day

Tue 13 Jun 2023 Mr Hopkinson

The children took part in Sports Day this afternoon, competing in three races: spring race, obstacle race and the hoop race. It was brilliant to see everyone having lots of fun, coupled with the great support from our families. Thank you to the staff for their hard work over the past few weeks in preparing the children – the afternoon went very smoothly!

  • Coronation Celebration

Wed 03 May 2023 Mr Hopkinson

The children had lots of fun today celebrating King Charles III’s upcoming coronation. Whilst dressed in red, white and blue, the children paraded the marvellous crowns that they had made to the rest of the school.

Everyone took part in a collaborative art project to create a huge image of King Charles made from each child’s self portrait. Once these are collated and put together, we will be having a poster made which will go on display in school.

During the afternoon the children enjoyed eating the sandwich they had made along with a cream and jam scone – yum! Finally, we finished the day watching a commissioned video all about the coronation which can be viewed here.
