  • School Hall Mural

Fri 11 Feb 2022 Mr Hopkinson

I am delighted to say that the mural in the school hall is now complete! The artists have been in over the week and the children have enjoyed seeing them work and the progress they have been making - it is amazing how the designs come to life at the very last moment!

  • Safer Internet Day 2022

Mon 07 Feb 2022 Mr Hopkinson

Tuesday 8th February is Safer Internet Day. Our Digital Leaders have recorded a podcast to mark the day and give you and your children some top tips for staying safe and happy online. Click here to listen!

  • Nativities

Thu 09 Dec 2021 Mr Hopkinson

Today saw our KS1 children perform the second of their two nativity performances, with the other taking place on Tuesday and Reception's taking place yesterday.

All of the performances were fantastic; it was evident that the children have worked incredibly hard to make them so special, and it was lovely having family members in school to be able to enjoy these special moments.

Also, a huge 'thank you' and well done to all of the staff involved in making these performances happen!

  • School Trips

Fri 26 Nov 2021 Mr Hopkinson

The past two weeks have been very exciting as we have been able to start our school trips again. Last week, year 2 went to Perlethorpe and had an amazing time exploring mini beasts in the river and taking part in woodland activities.

This week, our year 1 children visited Nottingham Castle as part of their history learning and had fun exploring the caves and taking part in workshops.

Next week, we have our Foundation 2 children taking part in their first school trip of the year when they visit Beaumanor Hall with the hope of meeting Santa!

  • Kitchen Science

Mon 15 Nov 2021 Mrs Sellers

In our final week of Science Tots, the children investigated kitchen science. They experimented with making volcanoes out of lemons and bicarbonate of soda and repeating patterns using skittles. They were amazed at when water was added it made a rainbow. We had some very funny faces when the children were tasting different foods without looking. The sweet one was the favourite! Lastly, the children made raisins dance. All the children really enjoyed the Science Tots sessions.

  • Welcome back!

Mon 08 Nov 2021 Mr Hopkinson

I hope everyone has had a restful half term with their families! All of the staff are very excited to see the children back in school and we are looking forward to an action-packed six weeks. We have got lots of things to look forward to this term, including nativities, Christmas carols, parties and a disco!

  • Spooky Science

Mon 11 Oct 2021 Mrs Sellers

This week at Science Tots we had a spooky theme. The children experimented with dissolving ghosts. They made gas bubbles and used balloons to create friction. They used their skills to retrieve spiders from webs - lots of fun and laughter had by all, especially when the ghoul ghost exploded.

  • Super Sunflowers

Thu 07 Oct 2021 Mrs Sellers

In July the children in Foundation planted some sunflower seeds. You can see how they turned out here. They look amazing. Well done!

  • Fun with physics

Mon 27 Sep 2021 Mrs Sellers

This week at science tots the children were having fun with Physics. The children started the session with investigating magnets and air pressure. Later in the session the children used their knowledge to raise water to the top of a container with just using stones (water displacement). They learnt that there was more movement from the water when the stone was larger. Finally, the children had a competition to build an unsupported tower - lots of reciprocity was used!

  • A busy week at WIS!

Fri 24 Sep 2021 Mr Hopkinson

It has been a busy week at WIS, made all the better by the lovely weather we have had. On Wednesday, all of key stage 1 took part in a very active assembly led by Miss Bartlam to mark World Fitness Day – there were lots of red faces and sweaty foreheads (even some of the chidren were tired out – sorry, Miss Bartlam)!

This week we also celebrated World Peace Day by coming together and talking about the importance of talking, listening and caring for each other. I set the children a challenge of showing kindness to one of their friends during the day, which they did a great job of and certainly lived up to the ‘be kind’ aspect of our school vision.

Today is our first FoW-organised event and our first face-to-face event for over 18 months. I am very excited to see lots of you after school on Arno Vale Junior School’s field for our summer fair. I will be about with a game for the grown ups – ‘50/50’, which is £1 for a number from 1 – 100 and once all numbers are taken, if your number is the one drawn out then you win half of the takings, with the remainder going to the school.
