Curriculum

The Curriculum at Woodthorpe Infant School

At Woodthorpe Infant School, we are committed to delivering a broad and balanced curriculum which excites, engages and gives children the opportunity to explore and deepen their understanding.

Each day consists of phonics, reading, English and mathematics sessions, with other areas of the curriculum being taught throughout the week, including aspects related to Personal, Social and Health Education, British Values, and Relationships and Health Education.

Our curriculum has been carefully designed to incorporate the school's duties with regards to the Equality Act 2010 and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014 to make the curriculum accessible to pupils with SEND. Further information can be found in our Special Educational Needs and Disability Policy, Equality Information and Objectives Statement, and Accessibility Plan.

Assessment at Woodthorpe Infant School

Ongoing formative assessment is an essential element of effective teaching and provides one of the main foci the school has for ensuring pupil attainment.  Our interleaving approach promotes the continual formative assessment of children's knowledge and understanding in all subjects.  Assessment carried out by the teacher provides information on a pupil’s strengths and next steps.  This ensures that gaps in knowledge are immediately addressed through the WIS quiz at the start of each session.
