In Computing, we learn all about computer systems and staying safe online, how to code and have chance to develop our ideas using technology over the year. Look around the house to get some online safety tips! Scroll down to find out more about Computing at Woodthorpe Infant School.
Computing in Reception
In Reception we begin by introducing Sam who loves playing with his tablet. He helps us to think about technology we like to use at home and how to stay happy and safe online. Through Sam, we introduce our healthy habits when using technology. During the year we learn how to follow instructions, solve simple problems, spot patterns and begin to break stories up into smaller parts building up our skills of decomposition! We love getting hands on with technology in school including walkie talkies, remote controlled vehicles and robots. Look at the pictures below to see us in action!
Computing in Year 1
In Year 1 we begin by learning about computer systems and spotting devices around school that follow programs. We also remind ourselves how to behave online by being kind and learn what information is private and should not be shared. In Spring we begin to learn to code, following simple programs and answering questions about programs. Later in the year we use simple software to create and edit digital content, bringing all our learning over the year together. Look at the pictures below to see the fun we have learning!
Computing in Year 2
Year 2 gives us the chance to widen our understanding of computer systems by looking at how technology is used in the world around us. We enjoy hosting Dave from Nottingham City Homes as we learn how some devices can be used to help people stay safe at home. We learn that all devices are programmed to follow algorithms. We also remind ourselves how to stay happy and safe working online and the importance of showing respect in all we do online. In Spring we develop our programming and coding skills, creating and debugging simple programs using Ozobot robots. We finish the year using technology creatively using all our skills we have learnt!
